BankWork$™, an eight-week free training program that places low-income young adults and those with barriers to employment in jobs in the banking industry, announced today that it will launch the BankWork$™ program in Houston, Denver and Chicago in 2016. The national expansion goal is to place 1,500 to 2,000 graduates annually in banking positions by 2019.
“These aren’t just any jobs, they’re stepping stones to rewarding careers. The banks hire our graduates because they stick. In an industry with high turnover, our tellers, customer service representatives and personal bankers are model employees who are more likely to stay in the job and perform well,” said Colleen Anderson, Executive Director at BankWork$™.
BankWork$™ began its $4-million national expansion in 2014, funded by Bank of America, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo, which have each pledged $1 million over five years to support the rollout, and by The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation, which founded the program and has also pledged $1 million. Launched in Los Angeles in 2006, the BankWork$™ program has expanded to Seattle, San Francisco, Phoenix and Portland, OR to date. The graduation rate is approximately 75 percent, and the program expects to place their 1,000th graduate before the end of 2015.
“The difference is, we train people so they’re prepared for day one on the job. With the level of professionalism, confidence in sales and service and hunger for success, our graduates are more than ready to start a successful career in banking” said Anderson. “Our founder, Les Biller, believed that every successful person has been helped by someone who opened a door for him or her at some point in their career. We’re honored to be opening that door for thousands more students and witness the life-changing experience as they start their new careers.”
The organization partners with leading non profit vocational training organizations in each market to serve young adults from low-income communities. The eight week course equips them with the hard and soft skills needed to become qualified candidates for in-demand jobs such as tellers, customer service representatives and personal bankers.
BankWork$™ was started in 2006 in Los Angeles by The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation and currently runs in Los Angeles, Seattle and San Francisco, placing more than 200 individuals in banking careers every year. As part of a five-year, $4-million national expansion in partnership with Bank of America, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo, the program will be expanding to 15+ markets by 2019.
